Maple Slow Cooker Carnitas

Maple can be used in any type of cuisine! Traditional sweetened with orange juice or honey, check our maple twist on this Mexican staple.

Ingredients:

  • 4 pounds pork butt roast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion
  • 5-6 cloves garlic
  • 1 cup dark maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 2 tablespoons ancho chile powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Directions: Spread oil on the bottom of a large slow cooker. Cutpork into large chunks and place inside the slow cooker. Add all remaining ingredients around the pork. Turn the slow cooker on low for 8-10 hours. Once the pork is fork-tender, shred the meat into the juices. Serve with roasted vegetables or on tacos.
